What Causes a Garage Door Opener to Stop Working?

• Obstructed photo eye sensor: Check around the opening of your garage door photo eye and make sure there is nothing blocking the sensor. Common obstructions include dirt, cobwebs, or debris buildup, which can interfere with the sensor’s ability to detect obstacles. Additionally, ensure that there are no objects placed directly in front of the sensors, such as tools, storage boxes, or even parked vehicles. Even minor obstructions can disrupt the photo eye’s signal and prevent the garage door from functioning properly.
• Garage door is locked: Your garage door is equipped with a manual locking mechanism, such as a slide lock or a T-handle lock, to ensure that these are disengaged before attempting to operate the door. If the green light is blinking, your garage door could be locked and you will not be able to open the garage door.
